MISSION STATEMENT The Mission at William Monroe High School is to build a positive, responsible and effective learning community, where not only students, but teachers and staff are encouraged to believe, achieve, and succeed. THE PHILOSOPHY OF WILLIAM MONROE HIGH SCHOOL We believe that each student needs to achieve a sense of personal worth and dignity. We realize that each student has differences in physical, intellectual, and social development. Each individual needs to develop communication skills, to think rationally, to develop a positive self-concept, a sense of moral values, and to grow into a self-reliant and resourceful individual. We believe that the school program should provide opportunities that allow students to grow in making responsible decisions and to examine their values as they relate to our changing society. We feel that it is important that we foster personal habits in each student which will promise continuing physical and mental health. We believe that the school and the community should work together in planning, implementing, and strengthening the education program. The responsibility of school is to provide opportunities for the development of the student. Thus, the school attempts to provide an environment which will assist each student in the formulation of realistic and worthwhile goals; provide the background for continued education, family life, successful employment; and promote attitudes and values of good citizenship. In order to achieve the desired results in education, we believe that there should be an open line of communication with the community and with all levels of the school system. Mutual respect, understanding and cooperation among all parties shall provide the opportunities for this relationship. We believe that a program of curricular activities should be developed which considers the nature of the youth and an understanding of the individuals who collectively make up the student body. We feel it is important that each student receive counseling in setting up a program of study, which suits his/her own goals, abilities, and aptitudes. We believe that our school should keep up with the changes taking place in American society through professional growth, staff development, and interaction of school and community population. We believe that the growth and development of students is the objective toward which educators at all levels are working, therefore, the school is committed to provide knowledge and experiences that will foster an appreciation of the past, an understanding of the present, and an attitude of hope for the future.
