Mrs. Whitmarsh, a native Virginian, received an undergraduate degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She spent nine years working as a Civilian Personnel Assistant at Fort Eustis before obtaining her Master of Elementary Education degree from Old Dominion. She relocated to Central Virginia and began teaching in Madison, Virginia. Mrs. Whitmarsh moved to the Greene County school system in 2003 and briefly served as Assistant Principal at Nathanael Greene Elementary School before being promoted to Principal at Greene County Primary School. During her five years at GCPS Mrs. Whitmarsh worked to enhance curriculum and instruction through the use of assessments and data. Mrs. Whitmarsh brought her keen insight and understanding of data and assessments to the division level when she was promoted to Director of Accountability and Student Achievement in 2008. She ascended to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in 2011.
Mrs. Whitmarsh lives in Greene County with her husband, Doug, and her daughters, Lizzie and Ainslie. Her personal interests include watching her daughters play softball and volleyball, as well as spending time with her extended family.
